CEO Note

It’s that time of year again when SAIGA hosts a conference that brings together its members, stakeholders, and accounting and auditing industry professionals under one roof.

The 2nd Annual SAIGA Conference, like the inaugural summit last year, aims to solve socioeconomic needs, particularly an improvement in the public sector in terms of governance, moral behaviour, competencies, new knowledge, skills, and cutting-edge methods of operation.

The programme is out and among the influential figures will be the keynote speaker, minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

With more than 20 years of experience in the administration, Dlamini-Zuma is one of the longest-serving public servants and doesn’t need an introduction.

In celebration of Women’s Month, we pay tribute to her achievements not only as a former head of the African Union, but also as a remarkable representative of our nation, and a cabinet minister.

We also have former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, the Executive Director of Professional and Business Ethics at The Ethics Institute, Prof Leon van Vuuren, retired judge Bernard Ngoepe as well as Intelligence Inspector General Setlhomamaru Dintwe.

It is a well-known reality that South Africa struggles with issues of bad governance and corruption, with little progress being made in the country’s local governments’ performance, accountability, or integrity over the years.

Therefore, in order to improve effective service delivery and good governance, the discussions at the conference will also focus on how public sector accountants and audit experts may help departments and other state entities achieve clean audit results.

The importance of the conference to SAIGA and society cannot be overstated, and we will take no chances to guarantee that we expand on the success of the previous year.

Last but not least, our 2021–2025 strategic plan is still on track, and the largest goal for us is to reach out to the public and inform them about SAIGA and the role it plays in society through the supervision of Registered Government Auditors (RGAs).

By strengthening public accountability and auditing, SAIGA continues to assist the public sector and society in its capacity as the organisation that represents the RGA designation.
