PSAA takes class to varsity students
STUDENTS across various higher learning institutions have expressed great interest in courses offered by SAIGA and Public Sector Accountancy and Audit Academy (PSAAA).
The PSAAA team, led by Portia Morai, embarked on a whirlwind tour of universities, namely the Tshwane University of Technology – Polokwane and Ga-Rankuwa campuses respectively – and the Vaal University of Technology during the month of August.
In partnership with SAIGA and the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training Authority (FASSET), the PSAAA offered free MCS and General Recognised Accounting Practice (GRAP) training courses to third-year and post-graduate students.
The team made its first stop in Polokwane where they trained over 80 students on MCS and interacted with another 80 on GRAP on 18 August.
The team then headed to the Ga-Rankuwa campus where they also offered MCS and GRAP courses to over 200 students and made their last stop at VUT where they offered similar courses to over 260 students on 9 September.
“The students were really appreciative of the opportunity by FASSET, SAIGA and PSAAA,” says Morai.
“With regards to VUT, we’re looking to work with their lecturers in some of our modules, in terms of facilitation. It’s the same with Ga-Rankuwa who are also looking at partnership around student membership. They are very interested in the student membership, and want to sign up with SAIGA for them to participate as members.
Dr Walter Tshamano, the rector at TUT Polokwane campus, said: “We are looking forward to collaborating with SAIGA for the training programmes and short courses.”
