The Southern African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA) will, for the second year running host its annual conference from Wednesday the 14th to Thursday 15th September 2022 at the Protea Fire & Ice Marriot hotel in Menlyn, Pretoria.
The conference under the theme “Step up the Mark” will host a number of key speakers who will deliver keynote addresses, master classes and presentations as well as take part in panel discussions on matters of accounting and auditing in the public sector.
The Southern African Institute of Government Auditors (SAIGA), Chief Executive Officer, Russel Morena says that this year’s theme is a step up to the previous conference theme “Citizens Come First”, which aimed to strengthen capacity building in the public sector and assist in providing clean governance and quality service delivery that leads to happy citizens.
“This year, our call to action to the auditing and accounting professionals is to up their standard. It serves as a call to professionals and professional organisations in the auditing and accounting field to act and carry their responsibilities and duties with integrity, objectivity, professional competence, due care, confidentiality and professional behavior.
Morena says the main objective of the conference is to provide a platform for accounting and auditing professionals to engage on various topics which are impacting the industry. Through this year’s conference we call on the auditing and accounting leadership to ensure ‘sustainable’ auditing. We have already noted some signs of improvement in some areas and strongly urge auditing professionals to ensure progressive and sustainable improvements.
He says the event will bring together professionals not only in South Africa but outside our borders with the sole purpose of contributing to solutions of capacity challenges and efficiencies within the public sector.
Morena says: “The annual conference is part of SAIGA’s vision 2023 strategy with a focus to strengthen capacity building in the public sector and expanding the Institute’s footprint in the rest of the African continent and globally.”
